About the memorial: Two Memorials: Upper Memorial to Lt. Robert James Menteith Middlemist is a rectangular brass plaque mounted onto a wooden backboard with an incised inscription and R. N. crest in the upper left hand corner of the plaque. Lower Memorial to Captain James Menteith Middlemist is a rectangular brass plaque mounted onto a wooden backboard. Incised inscription with Red & Black lettering and Red & Green incised Ivy & floral border on the plaque.

Upper Memorial: To the Glory of God/ and in loving memory of/ Robert James Menteith/ Middlemist Lieut. R. N. who lost/ lost his life in H. M. Submarine K5 on/ the 20th. January 1921. This tablet/ was erected by his mother. Lower Memorial: In loving memory of/ Captain James Menteith Middlesmist/ 3rd. Battalion Seaforth Highlanders/ Deputy Inspector General Gold Coast Constabulary/ who died of fever at Kumasi/ after a gallant and successful attempt/ to bring help to the garrison besieged there./ May 6th. 1900. Aged 32.
