About the memorial: A polished granite (?) plinth, showing coloured regimental crest in relief at its front, having an angled top with dedication in gold lettering. Dedicated in 2008.

HMS Hood sunk in action with the German battleship Bismarck in the Denmark straight of Greenland on 24th May 1941. In memory of the 1415 Officers and Ratings who died including 24 Commonwealth, 4 Polish midshipmen and 5 Free French sailors. Of the ship's company only 3 survived. Dedicated in 2008 by HMS Hood Association.
