About the memorial: Dedicated to crew of a Lancaster bomber which crashed near the village of Milton Nottinghamshire. IX Sqn Lancaster DV334 WS-C had departed Bardney at 1745 for Ops Berlin on 02/12/43 On return poor weather over base led to the aircraft being diverted to Gamston, however by the time the aircraft arrived there, poor weather had also developed Whilst on final approach to land the aircraft ran out of fuel and crashed close to the airfield at 0029 on 03/12/43 Six of the crew were killed, two were seriously injured
