About the memorial: The Ragged & Industrial School was in Brook St. opposite St. Paul's Church but was closed in 1922 or 1929. This plaque is listed twice by the IWM as No.53343 “St Peters Church Macclesfield Boer War WW1” & as No.52387 “Macclesfield Ragged and Industrial School”

This tablet is erected in grateful memory of the following men who lost their lives in the service of their Country. The South African Campaign 1899 – 1902. Pte. L Bamford, Royal Lancashire Regiment. Pupil here 1881-1885. Pte. W H Kelsall, Royal Lancashire Regiment. 1884-1888. Pte. Charles Moses, 3rd Batt. Wilts. Regiment. Pupil here Sep:18th 1894to July 16th 1898. Died on active service in Sth.
