About the memorial: Over the centuries the kirk had been sub-divided as a result of schisms within Scottish Christendom. St John the Baptist Church was restored in 1923-1926 in memory of the casualties of the County and City of Perth. The restoration includes the Memorial Chapel and Shrine, which holds the Book of Remembrance. The dedication inscription is on a plaque inset into the wall within the Shrine. See also separate reports for 'The Golden Book'- The Book of Remembrance (WMO/278937) and for 2 stained glass windows which formed part of the memorial scheme of restoration. Please note that, this is in St John's Kirk, but uses the full title of St John the Baptist Church. This is a bit confusing as there is another St John the Baptist Church in the City (which is Episcopal). The lettering is raised and the plaque is surmounted by a carving of the Cross of St Andrew. Flanking the plaque are two niche statues of Angels. The book of Remembrance is displayed in a glass top case below the plaque, mounted on a raised step.
