About the memorial: A battlefield cross with straight supports between the upright and cross member with an escutcheon shaped plate fixed over the crossing point. There is a metal unit badge let into the top part of the upright. The cross and plate are painted light grey with the dedication painted in black on the plate . Adjacent to the cross is a square brass plaque on a wooden backboard with dedicatory information about the cross . The text is incised but not coloured .

Brass plaque: This cross was erected by the officers, NCOs and men of the 1/5th Lancashire Fusiliers over the grave near Gomiecourt in France of Lieutenant Colonel Philip Vaughan Holberton at the spot where he fell in action on 26th March 1918 and afterwards placed in this church by his wife Dorothea, daughter of Owen Walcot. Wooden cross: Erected in fond memory of Lt Col P V Holberton Manchester Regt commanding 1/5th Batt Lanc Fus Killed in Action March 26th 1918.
