About the memorial: An addition to gravestone. Today in South Wales "The grave belongs to the family of Carmarthen seaman who was killed off the coast of Norway during the Second World War. The stone reads: "In loving memory of our dear pal Billy Jenkins RN. Killed in action, May, 1940. HMS Kelly. Following up the inscription has revealed an amazing story of wartime courage and sacrifice for one Carmarthen family. Disrepair Mr Jenkins, of St David's Avenue, said: "I walk through the churchyard everyday and often look at the grave. He was a Jenkins too — no relation. "I see it falling into disrepair. When a path was cleared to other war graves there, I thought 'Why hasn't this one been repaired?' "I thought it was a pity he had not got a similar sort of grave." Christ Church Eglwys Crist Parish of St. David, Carmarthen Plwyf Dewi Sant, Caerfyrddin "Commemoration A memorial plaque to be put on the family grave of Billy Jenkins RN, who died on HMS Kelly, will be dedicated during a special Evensong at 5pm on Sunday 17 May."

Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.
