About the memorial: Stone cross with floriated design at top centre. Wilkinson won the VC in the Crimean War but died in his bed in 1867. Is this a war memorial? The IWM Register thinks so, so it is included here. However, the IWM Register mis-spells the name as Wikinson.

Honour to the brave/To the memory of Thomas Wilkinson, pensioner R.M.A. who died in the City of York Sept. 22nd 1867. aged 55 years and was interred with full military honours./This stone was erected by the officers, N.C.O. and men of the Royal Marine Artillery as a token of respect to their late comrade Br. Wilkinson who received the Victoria Cross, Legion of Honour, Crimean and Turkish medals for his conspicuous bravery during the Crimean war.
