About the memorial: On the right hand wall of the main entrance hall to Queen Elizabeth Grammar School. Underneath a school crest and immediately above a brass plaque commerorating 2nd Lt Donald Callow, the only Ashbournian to be killed on the first day of the Battle of the Somme, 1 July 1916.
