On the border is, at the top a shield in front of crossed flags, to the left a naval rating lowering the Union Flag to the right a soldier with rifle against a sunset and at the foot a sea-plane. The name and capital letters are in red. The name "Petch" had been added in red ink by a later hand. It is not clear why, and CWGC show the deceased's name only as George Alfred Bielby.
