The cross is now broken off the base and is lying in the long grass adjacent. What can be seen of the inscription is in quite good condition, but the lower part of it is buried in the undergrowth.
I am advising a family member of the condition of the memorial, so it is possible that some care and maintenance may be undertaken in the future.
To find the gravestone it is necessary to use the plot plan which is available in book form in the Church and take that book out to site, as it is impossible to describe the location in this heavily overgrown Churchyard. An expanded version of the book is also available in Whitehaven Archives. This was compiled in 1982 since when the steeply sloping Churchyard has become totally overgrown to the point where it is dangerous to explore it.
