About the memorial: An ivory coloured bakelite plaque depicting an advancing British Soldier with rifle and fixed bayonet. The plaque has a stepped border bearing the opening line at the head and the lion, crown and crossed swords badge of the British Army at the foot. The plaque is moulded in relief. Originally mounted don the front stairs of the Town Hall, but now on the stairs at the rear of the Town Council Chamber.
