About the memorial: Round cairn made of stone from Norway and Shetland. On top of the cairn is a sculpture of the Andholmen, one of the boats used as a Shetland Bus. It is depicted riding the crest of a wave. On the sides of the cairn is a dedicatory plaque at the top. below it are four metal name plaques. The Shetland Bus was a wartime undertaking whereby Norwegian exiles undertook dangerous journeys to and from their homeland, at first in fishing boats, later in specially prepared craft. A book on the subject was published in the 1950s. The Memorial was organised and paid for by the Shetland Bus Friendship Society. David Cooper (Designer), Alan Hart (Sculptor), Alan Smiles (Mason), Unveiled 21 June 2003
