About the memorial: "Around 47ha of the Box Hill estate (total 386ha) was acquired through the National Land Fund (NLF) in 1951 and 1956. The NLF was set up in 1946 to purchase places of significant beauty or heritage value as a lasting memorial to those who gave their lives in war. It transferred these properties to various organisations to maintain them and provide public access." National Trust
