About the memorial: UKNIWM Ref: 34946 History 1925 Unveiled by Sir Berkerley Sheffield, MP on Whit Sunday 31stMay. Dedicated by the Rev. A.E.Day, Erected at Ashby Turn. Roll of Honour handed to Coun. Tomlinson who said it would be handed to the Ashby Librarian for safe custody (Source Scunthorpe Star 6/6/1925) 1939 - 1945 inscribed on base, no names 1963 The British Legion felt that the location at Ashby Turn was unsuitable for a war memorial being sited next to a public toilet, Memorial moved to its present site on Ashby High Street at St Paul's Church (Source Scunthorpe & Frodingham Star 1/11/63)
