About the memorial: 1) To remove six pews from the westernmost bay of the South Aisle and form a Children’s Chapel therein, with Oak Screen at the East End serving on its West Face as a Reredos, Altar, two candle-sticks and twelve chairs. 2) To provide and place on the South Wall of the said Children’s Chapel a tablet of Oak about eighteen inches by about twelve inches in size, with the following inscription thereon, namely: THIS CHAPEL OF SAINT NICHOLAS WAS CONSECRATED BY THE LORD BISHOP OF LINCOLN ON 1947 FOR THE SPECIAL USE OF THE CHILDREN IN THIS PARISH AND AS A MEMORIAL TO THE MEN OF EAST AND WEST BARKWITH WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THE WAR OF 1939 – 1945. (NAMES OF THE FALLEN) Works to be carried out by Messrs Bowman and Sons, Stamford, under the supervision of Mr. Lawrence Henry Bond of 11 Elmer St, Grantham – an experienced Architect. Approved at a meeting of the Parochial Church Council on the 28th October 1946. Seal affixed 8th September 1947. Faculty Box 20

Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.

Before applying for a grant you should read the advice available on War Memorials Trust`s website. The What we can and cannot fund helpsheet explains what types of work the charity can fund.

If you believe your project is eligible for a grant you should complete the Pre-application enquiry form. You will need to be registered and logged in to complete this.

The Pre-application enquiry form is a series of questions to see if your project is eligible. If it is, you will need to provide further details and submit current colour photographs of the war memorial in either a png, gif, jpg or jpeg format.
