About the memorial: There is a 1921 newspaper report (Aberdeen Press and Journal 8 August 1921) of unveiling of Mar Lodge Roll of Honour in the United Free Church in Charlotte Street (also known as the Blackfriars Church). "The memorial of the Mar Lodge is a large picture oils with the names of the fallen printed in gold letters on a dark background. The whole is surmounted by the emblem of the Order, while each side is draped with the flags of the Allies. On the right side at the picture is the figure of War with a shield, on which is inscribed 1914. On the left side is the figure of Peace with a shield, bearing the date 1919. At the bottom corner there is a picture of the tanks in action, and at the opposite corner a picture seaplane attack in the North Sea." This Church has long since been demolished but a further newspaper report from 1937 states that the memorial was moved around the corner to St George in the West in John Street. This church in turn was closed in 1969 but is now in use as a community and quasi-religious centre. The congregation used the money from the sale to remove to a new church at St George Tillydrone in Hayton Street but there is no record of whether the memorial went with them. In placing the pin position on the map I have assumed that it is in John Street but may well be wrong. Hopefully someone reading this might be able to visit these two centres to see if the memorial (and another from the Haddo Lodge of the same organisation) is there.
