About the memorial: The memorial is located at the junction of Ashley Road and Treadwell Road. It is an eighteen feet tall Cornish granite Celtic Cross on a three step base, accessed via a small flight of steps. Originally only for Epsom people, the inscription was changed to incorporate the Second World War and the inhabitants of Ewell. 265 names arranged on five panels at the rear, are all Epsom people and all died in the Great War. The name panels at the rear are incorporated into a wall with gates to commemorate the UPS Brigade. The Brigade was billeted with local landladies in 1914 until the camp at Woodcote Park was completed in early 1915.
