About the memorial: Rectangular grey marble tablet with inscription, set in a tapering plinth constructed of varied stone/slate bricks. Names of those commemorated set in four columns. It was unveiled on 11 November 2010 by Miss Dhoona Leece and dedicated by Canon Malcolm Convery. The memorial was sponsored by the Parish Board and cost £1,000. It was sculpted by Dennis Quaye, stonemason. It was decided to erect a central memorial in St John's village as it was felt that the men from German parish who fell in the two World Wars were not recorded elsewhere in the area. It is placed beside a busy road and footpath so that it can be easily observed by persons passing by. The memorial is still in situ as per the original photograph, directly opposite The Royal Chapel of St John the Baptist, Main Road, St John's, and on the grassed area containing the Ballahara Stones. The grassed area was, in fact, the pound for keeping stray animals. The memorial is in excellent condition and both it, and the surrounding flower beds and grassed area, are well maintained. No concerns at all about this memorial. Isle of Man National Inventory of War Memorials: IOM_NIWM_GER_00002
