About the memorial: Meanwood war memorial is in the style of a shrine, composed of a stone base, oak boards on the side and rear elevations, with a slate roof. Inside the shrine is a 900mm crucifix and bronze figure of Christ, on the ceiling of the shrine are twelve bronze stars. The World War I inscriptions are carved into the oak boards behind the crucifix and a bronze plaque on the front of the memorial commemorates those killed in World War II. There is also a low wall in front of the main memorial with a dedicatory plaque and a stone set into the pathway leading up to the memorial with the inscription 'Lest we forget'. The memorial is located at the junction of Memorial Drive (which leads to the parish church of Holy Trinity) and Green Road. The memorial is Grade II listed - see links tab for further information. Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.

If you believe your project is eligible for a grant you should complete the Pre-application enquiry form. You will need to be registered and logged in to complete this.

The Pre-application enquiry form is a series of questions to see if your project is eligible. If it is, you will need to provide further details and submit current colour photographs of the war memorial in either a png, gif, jpg or jpeg format.
