About the memorial: Celtic Wheel cross. The memorial is sited on a small grassed area, the surrounding wall has a round black metal plaque which reads; ROYAL BRITISH LEGION MEMORIAL WALL, IN MEMORY OF FLT SGT JOHN RATH R.A.F. and also WMO/104045

Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.

Before applying for a grant you should read the advice available on War Memorials Trust`s website. The What we can and cannot fund helpsheet explains what types of work the charity can fund.

If you believe your project is eligible for a grant you should complete the Pre-application enquiry form. You will need to be registered and logged in to complete this.

The Pre-application enquiry form is a series of questions to see if your project is eligible. If it is, you will need to provide further details and submit current colour photographs of the war memorial in either a png, gif, jpg or jpeg format.

You can save your Pre-application enquiry form as you go along. Once submitted War Memorials Trust will respond.

The circle of which is inscribed (carved) with, FOR GOD AND KING. On front (West) side base is inscription of; IN MEMORY OF THE HINGHAM MEN WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR 1914 - 1919 On the floor on front (West) side of the war memorial is a flower holder with the inscription of; PRESENTED BY CAPT: C.W.A DENNY , on reverse reads HINGHAM B.L.W.S. On front (East) side base is inscription of; IN MEMORY OF THE HINGHAM MEN WHO FELL IN THE WORLD WAR 1939 - 1945. On the floor on back (East) side of the war memorial is a stone flower holder with the inscription of; In proud & loving memory of F/SGT Tom Holland born 22.5.12. Killed in action 20.2.43. (the lead work on this flower pot is in poor condition, the letter I in loving and the number 4 in 43 are missing). On left (North) side base is inscription of; YE THAT LIVE ON MID ENGLISH PASTURES GREEN REMEMBER US AND THINK WHAT MIGHT HAVE BEEN. On right (South) side base is inscription of; THEIR BODIES ARE BURIED IN PEACE BUT THEIR NAME LIVETH FOR EVERMORE.
