About the memorial: Re-located memorials, re-dedicated Nov. 2008 : Three white marble memorial tablets set into a freestanding brick wall located on a grassed area between Chapel Lane & School Hill. Centre tablet is topped with a Calvary cross.

Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.

If you believe your project is eligible for a grant you should complete the Pre-application enquiry form. You will need to be registered and logged in to complete this.

The Pre-application enquiry form is a series of questions to see if your project is eligible. If it is, you will need to provide further details and submit current colour photographs of the war memorial in either a png, gif, jpg or jpeg format.

Panel 1 : THIS MEMORIAL WAS ERECTED HERE DURING 2008 AND RE-DEDICATED ON REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY NOVEMBER 2008 - NINETY YEARS AFTER THE ARMISTICE FOLLOWING THE GREAT WAR IT WAS ORIGINALLY ERECTED ON THE GIRLS SCHOOL, BUTT HILL AND DEDICATED IN JUNE 1919 THE COST BEING RAISED BY PUBLIC SUBSCRIPTION IT WAS REMOVED FROM ITS ORIGINAL LOCATION FOLLOWING THE SALE OF THE OLD SCHOOL TO A PRIVATE COMPANY IN 2007. THE BRICKS USED ARE SIMILAR TO THOSE IN ITS PREVIOUS SETTING . ALSO REMEMBERING WILLIAM BATCHELOR WHO IS INCLUDED ON THE GREAT WAR MEMORIAL OBELISK IN THE CHURCHYARD. / Panel 2 : ERECTED BY REVD RONALD IRWIN D.S.O. , M.C.
