About the memorial: Charles Edward Bateman, architect born 1863, was responsible for the design of the war memorial on the village green. It is rectangular in shape and the names are inscribed on plaques, with a cross in the centre of the two lists of names, under which are the words: At the Going Down of the Sun and in the Morning we will Remember Them. On the reverse side it has the words in red now faded Altar of Remembrance. The memorial sits within a small garden surrounded by a low limestone wall and fairly close to the road. Wheelchair accessible. Open air service held every Remembrance Sunday. Rededicated 2010.

Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.

Before applying for a grant you should read the advice available on War Memorials Trust`s website. The What we can and cannot fund helpsheet explains what types of work the charity can fund.

If you believe your project is eligible for a grant you should complete the Pre-application enquiry form. You will need to be registered and logged in to complete this.

The Pre-application enquiry form is a series of questions to see if your project is eligible. If it is, you will need to provide further details and submit current colour photographs of the war memorial in either a png, gif, jpg or jpeg format.

You can save your Pre-application enquiry form as you go along. Once submitted War Memorials Trust will respond.

The Great War 1914 - 1918 with names The World War 1939 - 1945 with names Plaque added at botton front bearing the words 'In memory of those who have fallen in conflicts since 1945. The rear central section of the memorial reads Alter Of Remembrance, the left hand side 'They Shall Grow Not Old As We That Are Left Grow Old', the right hand section reads ' Age Shall Not Weary Them Nor The Years Condemn'.
