About the memorial: Charles Edward Bateman, architect born 1863, was responsible for the design of the war memorial on the village green. It is rectangular in shape and the names are inscribed on plaques, with a cross in the centre of the two lists of names, under which are the words: At the Going Down of the Sun and in the Morning we will Remember Them. On the reverse side it has the words in red now faded Altar of Remembrance. The memorial sits within a small garden surrounded by a low limestone wall and fairly close to the road. Wheelchair accessible. Open air service held every Remembrance Sunday. Rededicated 2010.

Front-facing: The more recent marble panels with the names of the fallen are in good condition with legible script. The surface of the stone on which the marble is laid is crumbling and in need of repair to ensure the panels remain affixed.

Both sides of the memorial are in very poor condition with large patches of the outer sandstone slabs having crumbled away, this needs swift intervention to prevent further damage and instability.
The back of the memorial is in poor condition. The "Altar of Remembrance" lettering is somewhat legible as the letters are defined but the paint has faded. The inscriptions either side are not legible due to condition, size, lichen, and pollution - specialist cleaning and repair is needed immediately.

The top of the memorial is in poor condition and crumbling.

The surrounding garden area is well-kept and paving slabs have been replaced where dangerous.

Inscription:

The Great War 1914 - 1918 with names The World War 1939 - 1945 with names Plaque added at botton front bearing the words 'In memory of those who have fallen in conflicts since 1945. The rear central section of the memorial reads Alter Of Remembrance, the left hand side 'They Shall Grow Not Old As We That Are Left Grow Old', the right hand section reads ' Age Shall Not Weary Them Nor The Years Condemn'.
