About the memorial: Previously located in the Southborough Drill Hall, Royal Tunbridge Wells. Rectangular tablet with triangular pediment and regimental badge above. The names are in four columns in black lettering and the whole is supported by two corbels.

Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.

If you believe your project is eligible for a grant you should complete the Pre-application enquiry form. You will need to be registered and logged in to complete this.

The Pre-application enquiry form is a series of questions to see if your project is eligible. If it is, you will need to provide further details and submit current colour photographs of the war memorial in either a png, gif, jpg or jpeg format.

You can save your Pre-application enquiry form as you go along. Once submitted War Memorials Trust will respond.

THIS MEMORIAL IS ERECTED TO THE MEMORY OF THOSE OF THE 1ST/3RD KENT FIELD COMPANY/ ROYAL ENGINEERS, WHO VOLUNTEERED TO SERVE THEIR KING AND COUNTRY IN THE WAR OF 1914/ AND LOST THEIR LIVES IN MUDROS, WHEN UPON HMS HYTHE, WHICH WAS SUNK/ IN A COLLISION WITH HMS SARNIA ON THE NIGHT OF OCTOBER 28TH 1915/ THE NAMES OF ALL WHO PERISHED IN THIS CATASTROPHE ARE INSCRIBED BELOW. Small plaque below: THE HYTHE MEMORIAL/ ON WHICH ARE INSCRIBED/ THE NAMES OF THE MANY MEN FROM/ SOUTHBOROUGH AND HIGH BROOMS/ WAS ORIGINALLY PLACED IN/ THE DRILL HALL, SPELDHURST ROAD/ AND WAS ERECTED HERE IN 1969.
