About the memorial: The war memorial in the ancient market town of Oundle on the River Nene, is a small bronze cross on a bronze orb on a pillar. The pillar stands on a plinth which itself stands on an octagonal four-stepped base on a raised paved area. At the junction of the pillar and the plinth is a moulded course with stone spheres at each corner. Half way up all four sides of the pillar are bronze laurel wreaths, and below them are listed the names and ranks of the fallen men of World War I, listed under the branch of the services in which they served. There is an inscription at the bottom of the plinth, and the names of the fallen of World War II are listed on the top step, again with their rank and branch of the services. The memorial has a pillar and chain fence surrounding it. It is situated at the centre of a roundabout between Market Place, West Street and New Street.
