About the memorial: Description from IWM: 'A sandstone monument comprising a cross on a pedestal, plinth and base within a paved area surrounded by stone posts and metal chains. The plain wheel cross has a tapered shaft with an oblong panel at the foot. The panel contains a laurel wreath and the dates in relief. The battered pedestal has a slightly bevelled top surface and bears oblong pink granite tablets on three of its sides. The ashlar plinth has vertical faces, a slightly bevelled top and bears an incised inscription on the 6 o'clock face in upright capital block lettering coloured black and a pink granite tablet on its 3 o'clock face. The two-stepped base is of dressed ashlar. The pink granite tablets on the pedestal have incised gilded inscription and names in upright capital block lettering. That on the plinth has a gilded and incised inscription in upright capital Roman lettering and names in upright capital block lettering. The tablets appear to be a later addition, perhaps to replace an earlier eroded inscription. The memorial is surrounded by a concrete path and a fence comprising eleven roughly dressed stone posts with dressed arrises and pyramidal tops, with wrought iron chains and gate.'
