About the memorial: The tablet refers to a list of names in the IWM Library (Copy number K. 3861-1 - http://www.iwm.org.uk/collections/item/publication/50000152). The church was damaged in the Second World War and sold to the Roman Catholic Church. It reopened as Our Lady of the Rosary in 1953 (http://taking-stock.org.uk/Home/Dioceses/Archdiocese-of-Southwark/Brixton-Our-Lady-of-the-Rosary). The tablet refers to an 'earlier memorial' of an unknown type. The entry for this memorial originally located it within Lambeth College on Brixton Hill and as a 'Freestanding' - 'Other sculpture'. That might refer to the previous memorial or may have been an error. The 2007 book 'Public Sculpture of South London' by Terry Cavanagh 2007 refers to 'the sculpture 'Brixton Independent Church War Memorial,' by Richard Belt'. It states it was 6.1m high, made of Portland stone and shows the nation's victory, how the nation called her sons to her aid and how peace was won through victory. The online reference does not state its location or whether it is still extant (p347 - referenced at http://connection.ebscohost.com/c/reference-entries/39761078/brixton-independent-church-war-memorial).
