About the memorial: The memorial stands on a small green adjacent to The Street, at the entrance drive to the church of St. Peter. A Sicilian marble cross stands above a lipped square monument of Portland stone. The north face contains the general commemoration; the east face with emblems of crossed swords, crossed lances, pennants and cap in relief; the west face with an emblem of cross rifles in relief; the south face is engraved with the names of the 12 men who fell, giving first name, surname and unit. The whole sits on a 2-tiered base. 4.8 metre high on a 2.5 meter square base, designed by F E Hawkins (Architect) and unveiled on 24 April 1920 and recorded in the Bury and Norwich Post of 30th April 1920 © IWM (WMR-5238)

The Pre-application enquiry form is a series of questions to see if your project is eligible. If it is, you will need to provide further details and submit current colour photographs of the war memorial in either a png, gif, jpg or jpeg format.

On the base of the cross is inscribed, from the west-south-east THANKS BE TO -GOD WHO GIVETH - US THE VICTORY and on the north is WAR DECLARED 4TH AUG 1914 ARMISTICE SIGNED 11TH NOV.1918 PEACE SIGNED 25TH JUNE 1919 Below that, on the frieze, reading from North to West to South and to East is inscribed:- BLESSED ARE THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE THE LORD FOR THEIR GOD // THINE IS THE KINGDOM // THE POWER AND THE GLORY // FOR EVER AND EVER. // (North face)THIS // MONUMENT // WAS ERECTED BY SUBSCRIPTION // TO THE GLORY OF GOD // AND AS // A MEMORIAL OF THE GREAT WAR // 1914 TO 1919. // ALSO TO KEEP IN MEMORY // THE MEN OF LIVERMERE // WHO FELL IN THAT WAR // AND TO // GRATEFULLY ACKNOWLEDGE THE // PATRIOTISM OF THE // OTHER FIFTY-ONE LOCAL MEN // WHO SERVED THEIR COUNTRY IN // ITS TIME OF PERIL.
