About the memorial: A narrow stone tablet with scrolled top, and roundel containing initials of the London General Omnibus Company, originally with small plinth base (base now missing), showing dedication and names (gold lettering). Previously at Streatham Bus Garage, now on the ground floor of the West Norwood bus station. London Remembers website records the following: London Transport Museum, curator Simon Murphy, sent us a copy of a 1921 article in the staff magazine 'News of TOT' which reported on the unveiling of this plaque and, importantly gives the list of names which we have transcribed here. That article has another photo of the event and provides some statistics: “From this garage 378 men went to fight; of these, 29 laid down their lives … its men gained one DCM, six MMs one Croix de Guerre, one Meritorious Medal …”. The article also has “The tablet is from the design of Mr Ernest Frost of Croydon and has been executed in grey Peterhead granite by Messrs Maxwell Bros. of Brixton Hill.” The Cunningham Gate plaque/memorial was originally at Elmers End bus garage and transferred to West Norwood after its closure in 1986.
