About the memorial: Standing on the pavement, beside the road, adjacent to the junction with Victoria Terrace. A pale granite cenotaph, upon a three-tiered base, surrounded by chained bollards. The general commemoration is in Welsh on the front (south) face, and in English on the rear (north) face. On the front and rear faces are four bronze tablets in total, listing by service, or ship, in surname alphabetical order, surname first followed by initials, the names of 281 men and 3 women who died in WW1. On a smaller bronze plaque on the front face are listed the names of 5, highly decorated casualties, including one Victoria Cross winner, all of which but one are also listed on the main tablets. On either end of the cenotaph is a bronze sculptured effigy, to the east of a sailor, and to the west a soldier. Beneath these two figures are additional granite tablets commemorating the names of 140 who died in WW2, again listed alphabetically by surname, followed by initials. On the west end there is a further commemoration to a Welsh Guardsman killed in the Falklands War, 1982.
