About the memorial: Removed in 2004, currently in storage at Council Depot, Stanniforth Road, with an estimate of £2M to repair and resite at a suitable location. In 2014 the council rejected calls from the Victorian Society to do the work, saying it could not afford it. The statue shown in the 1990 photograph was originally on top of a column in Moorhead but was moved to the Botanical Garden in 1960.
