About the memorial: This war memorial is a Portland stone column set on a granite plinth with bronze female figure on top holding broken chains - the Spirit of Freedom.. On the plinth and stone wall behind are large bronze plaques. The column is set within iron railings which enclose a paved area and soft landscaping. Another plaque was added in 2006 to commemorate those who have been lost in conflicts post-1945.
