About the memorial: The memorial is located Station Concourse (to the left of the exit onto Todd Street). Until the alterations made to Victoria Station in connection with the building of the Metrolink tramway, the Memorial consisted simply of a cast bronze plaque, with inscription in relief, set beside the gateway. During the refurbishment following the alterations the gateway was filled with a steel plate behind a glass panel. The glass panel has printed upon it the names of the Commonwealth WW1 cemeteries and memorials set out to show their relative geographical locations. Beside each name is printed the number of graves and/ or commemorations at each site. The steel plate has been drilled to mark the location of each cemetery or memorial, with the size of the hole corresponding to the numbers of burials and/ or commemorations at the particular site. A cast steel explanatory plaque sits below the original bronze plaque. On the steps at the foot of the gateway have been placed two wooden photograph stands carrying inscriptions - one carved into the base, the other on a small brass plaque. The photograph frame on the former is missing..--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Manchester Walk
