A short account of the dedication by Lord Bath was published in the Somerset and West of England Advertiser, 24 September 1920 (p. 3), including this physical description of the memorial: 'CHEDDAR WAR MEMORIAL. Unveiled by the Marquess of Bath. A large concourse of people assembled on Wednesday to take part in the unveiling of the Cheddar parish war memorial, which has been erected at the junction of the roads near the railway station. The memorial, which is built of Doulting stone stands 27 feet high, and on the front panel is the following inscription:-- “Do your duty that is best; Leave unto thy God the rest.” Then followed the names of those who fell.'
