About the memorial: Three substantial steps leading up to a plinth with column and cross on top. Located next to the car park for Oakmere House and Park. Tall base surmounted by Free Gothic column and cross. Cornice to pedestal which has a dedicatory inscription and, on the other 3 sides, the names of war dead all inscribed in fine gold lettering. Octagonal column with concave sides and a loosely foliate capital. Diagonal buttresses to pedestal with finials and flying buttresses to column. Similar flying buttresses to iron gold painted cross. Re-erected 1973 on a stepped circular base on the site of the demolished Church of St. John the Baptist. (Pevsner 1977). c Historic England Listing entry
