About the memorial: The war memorial in the village of Hennock, situated in north east Dartmoor in Devon, commemorates the men of the village and also of Teign Village. It is a rough Dartmoor granite wheel cross on a plinth and a rough stone slab base, the lettering is blackened lead. The memorial stands on a stone faced bank at the top of a narrow flight of steps beside the main lane in Hennock, and is surrounded by a small lawn. Metal bow-top railings mark the boundary of the lawn. The Hennock and Teign Village War Memorial was consecrated about the 23th Nov 1924 at a service conducted by the Bishop of Exeter and the Vicar of Hennock the Rev R J Attfield. The memorial was unveiled by Brig. Gen. S. M. Edwardes CB, CMG, DSO of Chudleigh. The War Memorial is situated some distance from the Church just outside of the original village on land donated by Mr F G George of Hazelwood. The site was chosen so that although in Hennock it would be visible from Teign Village. The Cross itself is 9 foot high and made of rough Dartmoor granite.
