About the memorial: Little local information can be found in relation to the war memorial. It is of a celtic cross design and has been constructed from light gray granite and has been built on a prominent rock outcrop adjacent to the main road. It was constructed as a result of fund raising by three survivors of the 1st Worl War - Andrew Scott, Joseph Blackstock and William McQuarter. Major Gray, whose son was killed in the great war was a major organiser and contributer
