About the memorial: The 1914-18 Finsbury war Memorial was unveiled in 1921 by Alderman Lt Col Sir Henry Barton JP, Mayor of Finsbury. The figure represents Peace and Victory and the sculptor was Thomas Rudge. There were large bronze panels showing the Finsbury Rifles in action at Gaza, the Honourable Artillery Company at the crossing of the Piave, Italy and local men taking part in the naval raid on Zebrugge. The latter two have been stolen. The dates of the Second World War were added.
