Description: Roll of Honour or Book of Remembrance
Conflicts:
  • First World War (1914-1918)
About the memorial: The memorial was formally located on the ground floor of the School's Mackintosh Building, this illuminated Roll of Honour was commissioned by the School and designed by a former student, Dorothy Doddrell in 1925. It takes the form of an illuminated parchment in paint and gold leaf, set within a substantial copper and wood framed triptych - one large, central panel and two smaller side panels. The Roll of Honour lists all staff, students and governors who served during the conflict. It also cites the regiments served and references those who tragically died. In 2014 War Memorials Trust offered a grant of £1,140 for repair and conservation work. Following the award of a grant offer there was a concern about the memorial following the fire which broke out at the Mackintosh building. However it was soon confirmed that although the memorial had been in the building at the time of the fire no damage had occurred and that the original planned conservation work would be undertaken without the need for additional work. Follow works the memorial was temporarily relocated to the Reid Building across the road so that it could be on display while works were being undertaken on the Mackintosh building. The memorial was still in the Reid building at the time of the 2018 fire.
