About the memorial: An Old English village cross in Clipsham stone. The base of the cross rests on four bold steps and is hexagonal. Total height 19 ft. Name tablets are cut in slate and incorporated in a curved wall immediately behind the cross. The designer of the monument was by Sir Charles Nicholson; erected by Messrs Graham and Jessop Ltd and unveiled at an official ceremony on the 15th May 1921.
