About the memorial: The memorial to the fallen of the villages of Hales and Heckingham in eastern Norfolk is stone Celtic cross situated at crossroads of School Lane, Green Lane and Yarmouth Road in Hales. The rough stone memorial stands on a plinth which has two rough faces and two polished faces. The names of the fallen of Hales are on the side of the plinth facing their village and the fallen of Heckingham are on the opposite side, facing their village.

The Pre-application enquiry form is a series of questions to see if your project is eligible. If it is, you will need to provide further details and submit current colour photographs of the war memorial in either a png, gif, jpg or jpeg format.

On the Heckingham side of the memorial, at the top is inscribed:TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND UNDYING REMBRANCE OF THESE MEN WHO LAID DOWN THEIR LIVES FOR THEIR COUNTRY IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-1918 MAY THEY REST IN PEACE' On the Hales side of the memorial, between two sets of names is inscribed:- 'PASS FRIEND. ALL'S WELL
