About the memorial: St Andrew's Church on the High Street in Hornchurch contains a number of war memorial plaques. One of those is dedicated to Frederick John William Chester who died in the South African war in 1900. The memorial plaque to Pte Chester is made of brass with black and red infill in the engraving and displays his regimental insignia.
