About the memorial: Memorial wall bearing a 1 metre diameter mosaic of the Combined Ops badge surrounded by stones of remembrance taken from Loch Fyne in Scotland where over 250,000 service personnel were trained in amphibious landings by the Combined Operations Command. There are also three trees - oak for the Navy, Ash for the Army and Sitka Spruce for the RAF since the memorial represents the three services working together as a unified force. The spearhead shape is the archetypal attack formation adopted on Commando raids and landings, including D-Day - all part of Combined Operations. On Thursday, July 4th 2013, in the presence of Her Majesty's Lord Lieutenant of Staffordshire, Mr Ian Dudson, CBE and 200 guests including 25 WW2 veterans and 6 Standard Bearers, the Combined Operations Command Memorial was unveiled by General Sir Richard Barrons KCB CBE ADC Gen, Commander of the Joint Forces Command and dedicated by the Reverend Prebendary Tony Wood. COMBINED OPERATIONS COMMAND. This memorial is dedicated to the hundreds of thousands of personnel from the three services of Allied Nations who served in Combined Operations, were trained by them in amphibious landings techniques or took part in joint operations in World War II, including D-Day. It is especially dedicated to those who did not return from the field of conflict, died during realistic training exercises or suffered lifelong mental and physical trauma. WE WILL REMEMBER THEM.
