About the memorial: Within the church, on the left (north) wall of the nave.An ornate marble tablet, 60 inches high by 30 inches wide, with scroll pediment, inset with a gold cross behind a metal wreath of laurels. Metal ornamentation adorns the two flanking columns. A central gold painted plaque is surmounted by the words: To the Glory of God and in grafteful memory of the following parishoners who gave their lives for King and Country and in defence of justice and freedom in the 2nd World War A.D. 1939-45. On the plaque are painted the names of 7 parishioners who gave their lives, and, as on the WW1 memorial, are listed by rank, listing their ranks, units and ages. The commemoration ends with the words: In the sight of the unwise they seemed to die yet is their hope full of immortality. This memorial, constructed by Messrs Hanchett at a cost of £154.13.8d., was unveiled by Colonel W.P.Cutlack on the 6th June 1948. (The WW1 memorial is to the right of this memorial)

Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.

Before applying for a grant you should read the advice available on War Memorials Trust`s website. The What we can and cannot fund helpsheet explains what types of work the charity can fund.

If you believe your project is eligible for a grant you should complete the Pre-application enquiry form. You will need to be registered and logged in to complete this.

The Pre-application enquiry form is a series of questions to see if your project is eligible. If it is, you will need to provide further details and submit current colour photographs of the war memorial in either a png, gif, jpg or jpeg format.

You can save your Pre-application enquiry form as you go along. Once submitted War Memorials Trust will respond.
