About the memorial: Situated on the raised garden area in the centre of Dewsbury Town centre The period commemorated is 1914 – 1919 and 1939 – 1945 Description – this memorial stone was created and built in the early 90s following a request from the Dewsbury Branch of the Royal British Legion whose members were finding it difficult to parade from the centre of Dewsbury to the main memorial situated in Crow Nest Park, which is approximately one mile away in distance. At Remembrance time services are carried out at this memorial with wreath laying taking place at both locations The Inscription reads: In Remembrance of all those who died In the service of their Country We Will Remember Them Names and plaques There are no names listed on this memorial stone on Long Causeway, the respective names of the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice are listed on the two memorials in Crow Nest Park – see web sites ‘Dewsbury’ and ‘Dewsbury (South African war)
