About the memorial: The memorial is within the Bannockburn National Trust for Scotland site. It is close to the spot where The Bruce is believed to have planted his Standard before the battle, though the site of the battle remains unknown in the absence of any artefacts having been found, though theories abound. (Information correct as of August 2018.) It consists of a statue of The Bruce, and a circular henge-like structure containing a cairn with an inscription and a flagpole. The flag was purloined and taken to Argentina by optimistic Scottish football fans in 1978, but returned safely after the ensuing disappointment had been endured. The visitor centre contains little of interest to the historically-minded visitor except that a guided tour of the site can be booked along with a short video relating to what is known of the battle, which took place somewhere down the hill towards the Bannock Burn.
