About the memorial: Bronze figure of a soldier in the uniform of the Boer War period on a granite column with a limestone base and flanked by two limestone lions. Bronze plaques on each of the four sides list the names of the men of the 2nd Cheshire Royal Engineers (Railway Volunteers) commemorated by the monument. (HE listing entry says marble and sandstone.)
