About the memorial: The memorial commemorates the fallen members of the Lovat Scouts during the Boer War of 1899 to 1902. The memorial consists of a freestanding sectional stone plinth obelisk raised on a two stepped base, and surmounted with castellations and pinnacle. Small carved cannon protrude from each corner of the castellation draining water from the concealed gutter. An ironwork wind vane tops the memorial. Inset into the west elevation there is a bronze relief of two men in Lovat Scout dress, one standing and one seated on the ground by a horse. The badge of the Lovat Scouts is carved in relief above the bronze relief panel. On the other elevations names are listed with theatres of action incised below. The memorial is located in the Square, Beauly. An interesting account of the Lovat Scouts may be read in the journal History Scotland for July/August 2018.
