About the memorial: A four-light stained glass window, with tracery above. The centrepiece is in the upper part of the central two lights: Beneath a scroll, bearing the text 'I will give thee a crown of life', which is surrounded by grapes on the vine. a hovering angel, holding a crown in its left arm, extends its right arm in blessing to a kneeling knight in Crusader armour, his helmet on the floor. The knight offers up his sword in surrender. He holds a shield on which the central image is of a tree - perhaps a play on his name (Wood). It is understood that the face of the knight is that of Wood himself. Behind him another knight, holding a flag, stands with head bowed. There are two smaller scenes depicted below - in the lefthand light is a woman, leaning in sorrow on a funereal urn on a column, holding a laurel wreath in her left hand; in the righthand light stands an angel, holding a trumpet. Above their heads are grapes on vines, and they are surrounded by flowers and leaves. The dedication is written beneath these two lights, below grapes on the vine. In the light to the left is depicted St George, beneath a ruined building, perhaps representing Ypres, where Wood died, with the slain dragon at his feet. Underneath is the Coat of Arms of Belgium, with the motto 'L'Union Fait la Force' (Unity gives strength). In the light to the right is depicted Joan of Arc, looking up to a damaged Reims Cathedral. Underneath is the shield of the French Republic, surrounded by a wreath. A text is written across the two outer lights, below acorns and oak leaves, which are also shown in the trefoils above each figure. The central section of the tracery at the top carries the dates of the war, surrounded by red roses, and there are white roses in the outer sections.
