About the memorial: Elizabeth Mary Collins was an Irish nurse working in France during the German invasion. She used her nursing skills to help escaping prisoners of war and members of the French Resistance. After the war she received the Kings' commendation for brave conduct and the bronze medal of the French red Cross. She was buried in a pauper's grave in 1952. In 1953 the British Legion purchased the grave and placed a memorial stone.

To the honour and proud memory of Elizabeth Mary Collins who died 7th June 1952 Aged 65. This Irish nurse rendered invaluable assistance to wounded allied service personnel during the German occupation of France 1940-1945. She risked her life on many occasions to help prisoners of war to escape. Awarded the King's Commendation for brave conduct and Bronze Medal of the French Red Cross. We will remember
